ABOUT IZMIT
Izmit, also known as Kocaeli, is the provincial capital of Kocaeli Province in Turkey. It is located on the Gulf of Izmit in the Sea of Marmara, near the eastern end of the Izmit Bay and has a rich history dating back to ancient times. İzmit is an important industrial and commercial center in Turkey, with a focus on manufacturing, petrochemicals, and shipping. The city is also known for its historical sites, including the 15th-century Yeni Cuma Mosque, the 16th-century Süleyman Paşa Mosque, and the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Nicomedia. İzmit City metro area made up of Darica, Kartepe, Basiskele, Korfez, Golcuk, Derince and Sapanca (in Sakarya Province).
