The tower has a rich history dating back to the medieval period. It was built by the Genoese in the 14th century as part of the fortifications surrounding their colony in Constantinople (now Istanbul). Originally known as the “Tower of Christ,” it served as a watchtower and a symbol of Genoese power in the region. The Galata Tower is an impressive stone structure standing at around 67 meters (220 feet) tall. It features a cylindrical shape with several levels, topped by a conical roof and a viewing platform. The tower has undergone various renovations and additions over the centuries.
